Can You Use 2 4 Pin to 8 Pin GPU? Is It Fit?

February 15, 2022 by Jim Eddy

Connectors play a crucial role in transferring data from hardware to hardware. There are 2 pin connectors, 4 pin connectors, 8 pin connectors, and so on. You should use the same kind of connector (4 pins to 4 pins, 8 pins to 8 pins) between two power supplies; there are ways to connect them with different pin numbers although it may not be ideal. The 4 pin connectors are the old ones that are replaced by the 8 pins but many try to use their older power connector in the brand new 8 pins GPU. The question is- can you do it? We will look for the answer in this article.

Can You Use 2 4 Pin to 8 Pin GPU?

The 4 pin connector is actually for the CPU in the motherboard. Hence, you should not directly use 2 x 4 pin to 8 pin GPU (Graphical Processing Unit). Even if the arrangement works, it will not give you the kind of output you would like.

Ideally, you should buy a new power source with the 8 pin connector rather than having to use the old 4 pin connector to 8 pin GPU. But we do not live in an ideal world, do we? You may have budgetary constraints and you would want to use the old two 4 pin connectors to do the job. You can do it with the use of an adapter that has 8 pin connectors. Make sure that you are using more power, over 100 V to get a good effect.

Molex adapter can connect to 8 pin GPU by splitting 2 4 pins into 6 + 2 pins combo. However, if you can afford it, I would recommend getting a new power source with 8 pins because the graphical output is very sensitive and you should have proper peripherals to get out the best of the graphics card.

Conclusion

Yes, you can use 2 4 pins to 8 pin GPU especially if there is no way to afford a new 8 pin PSU (Power Supply Unit). Use an adapter and it will do an okay kind of job. Hopefully, you got the answer. Have a nice day!
