What Does Ti Stand For In GPU | Mighty Than Regular Nvidia GPU

Last Updated on March 7, 2023 by Jim Eddy Leave a Comment

Ti stands for ‘Titanium’ in GeForce GPUs. Ti at the end of an Nvidia GPU means that the GPU is the most powerful one from that series. Though Ti means titanium, the card does not have any titanium in it.

What Does Ti Stand For In GPU – Ti Is a Nvidia GPU Brand

Ti refers to the Nvidia brand of graphics cards. When included in an Nvidia GPU product name the Ti label is a part of Nvidia’s naming scheme for its GPUs and is used to signify that a specific graphics card is an improved or better performing model than its ordinary ones, or non-Ti, predecessor.

In 2015, when NVIDIA used the term “Ti” first, it was to describe a recently released, more powerful edition of an existing graphics card model. They did it publicly on Twitter when they announced the GTX 980 Ti.

Nvidia GeForce: Ti vs Non-Ti

RTX 2080 is a non-Ti GPU from Nvidia, whereas RTX 2080 Ti is a titanium card. The difference between these two cards is the performance. 2080 Ti is a lot more capable of handling loads than an RTX 2080. The 2080 Ti is also $300 pricier than 2080.

A 2080 Ti has more CUDA cores than 2080, which means 2080 Ti has clearer and more lifelike graphics. Again, the Ti one has more memory. The difference between a Ti card and a non-Ti card from the same series is not always as big as these two. Such as a 3070 and 3070 Ti, do not differ a lot from each other.

Difference Between Ti and Non-Ti GPUs

Let’s take an example. To consider the specs, the GeForce RTX 3080 and the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti features many of the same specs, but the 3080 Ti version has a few upgrades over the 3080, such as CUDA cores and more memory. The 3080 Ti has 10,240 cores whereas the 3080 only has 8,704. 3080 Ti offers 12GB of memory, while the 3080 has 10GB.

The Best Ti Graphics Card

The RTX 3080 Ti is currently the most powerful Ti graphics card, with the Nvidia RTX 3090 and AMD RX 6900 XT coming close. The RTX 2080 Ti dominated the field for two years before being overtaken by the RTX 3000 family of graphics cards.

Nvidia Super Cards

There is also a label like Ti is in Nvidia’s market, which is ‘Super’. Nvidia’s Super refers to a refresh of their graphics card. Nvidia released RTX 2060, 2070, and 2080. Then these models got refreshed as Super and Nvidia released the Super versions of these were a little bit better.

Ti vs SUPER

The Ti series GPUs are superior to the SUPER versions in terms of performance. The VRAM and time operation difference is quite significant in these two types of GPUs. As an example, The 2080 Super has a few cores more than a normal 2080.

However, the differences between some of the frame rates tested in various games are not so huge.

What does RTX stand for?

RTX stands for Ray Tracing Texel eXtreme. RTX falls under the GeForce variant. The RTX cards are specially made for real-time ray tracing, which means every object in a 3D world can reflect light like the real world. Without RTX, objects are artificially lightened up which looks unrealistic. Most of the games perform very lagging with the RTX feature if DLSS is not turned on.

Conclusion

If price is not a problem and you are a hardcore gamer, then a Ti GPU is a necessity for you. But for a mid-range PC for a gamer, a lower-end Ti GPU or a mid or higher-end non-Ti GPU is going to be the best option.
