SLI (Scalable Link Interface) is introduced in the consumer market by NVIDIA in 1998. It is a multi-GPU technology that generates a single output by combining 2 or more cards. Many gamers claim that SLI is a dead technology. So, should you spend on 1070 Ti SLI or a single powerful GPU is a good choice?
In our opinion – SLI is not a dead technology but it is not a wise investment for most gamers today. Yes, for a small number of gamers on the cutting edge who play games with a 4k 144 Hz or 8k monitor SLI is still a viable option.

The 1070 Ti is based on Pascal architecture which was introduced in 2016 and the RTX 2070 Super is based on Turing architecture which was introduced in 2018. Since Turing architecture is younger than Pascal, Turing architecture is far more advanced than pascal architecture.
The 1070 Ti uses 16nm FinFET and CUDA cores their main pixel processing units and for Rasterization. On the other hand, the RTX 2070 uses 12nm FinFET and CUDA Cores, Tensor Cores, and RT Cores to perform 3 different tasks.
You know that the CUDA Cores do the job of Rasterization but in RTX 2070 they feature SM (Streaming Multiprocessor) architecture that supports 16 trillion floating-point operations in parallel with 16 trillion integer operations per second.
The Tensor cores perform different types of complex situations with the help of AI and deep learning. It is also used for smoothening out edges in games and for denoising, resolution scaling, and video re-timing.
The RT cores support Real-Time Ray Tracing for creating lifelike lighting, shadows, reflections, refractions, and other advanced lighting effects.
While the 1070 Ti supports the GDDR5 memory the RTX 2070 supports the GDDR6 memory. And you know the GDDR6 is a combination of GDDR5, GDDR5X, and even HBM2 features with increased capacity, and increased bandwidth.
While the GDDR5 memory of 1070 Ti offers you the speed of up to 8 Gbps the GDDR6 offers you 16Gbps.
The 2070 RTX super can provide up to 6X performance than the 1070 Ti. Moreover, the price difference between the two cards is not so significant to count.
If you want to do SLI (Scalable Link Interface) then you have to buy two cards and it will cost more. Also, you can only play the SLI-supported games with the 1070 Ti SLI. Since the popularity of SLI is decreasing day by day the SLI-supported games are becoming less available. It limits your choice.
