Do Motherboards Come with Screws? | Need to Know the Facts

Last Updated on April 19, 2023 by Jim Eddy Leave a Comment

It will not be fair if I say yes or no directly as an answer to the question- do motherboards come with screws? Though I can share the general point of view.

In general, manufacturers do not give the mount screw or standoff with motherboards. Rather, screws are mostly provided with the casing.

Here in this article, I will describe the related facts in detail. Let’s explore.

Do Motherboards Come with Screws

Do Motherboards Come with Screws? – The Main Purposes of the Screw

To mount the motherboard on the PC case, you must need the dedicated screws and standoffs. Here, the motherboard needs standoffs to create a gap between its and the case body. And screw mounts the motherboard on the case.

In general, the screw is made by following a universal shape and size. Although, some manufacturers supply different types of dedicated screws. Here the exception happens that motherboard manufacturers supply screws when they want to use different shapes and sizes.

What Are the Mounting Screws for Motherboard?

You need screws to mount the motherboard on the chassis. There are two facts that differentiate the dimension of mounting screws.

One is comparatively large screws for higher-end cases to mount the ATX or Extended ATX motherboards.

Other is smaller screws for cheaper cases to mount motherboards like mATX.

You will need some other related hardware components to install a motherboard. These are-

Standoffs

Standoffs are generally used for creating space between two assembled pieces of the motherboard. ‘Spacer’ is another common name for standoffs. You will find various kinds of standoffs in different shapes and sizes. It can be plastic, metal, or any kind of other material.

Risers Screw

It is one kind of copper screw. Basic Risers are generally found in low-end PC cases, and Brass Risers are found in mid and high-end PC cases. Risers Screw has two ends where one is a male thread, and the other is a female thread.

Risers Screw helps the motherboard to avoid any metal contact with the case. That means it saves your motherboard from short-circuit.

M.2 Screw

M.2 Screw is not like a mounting screw. Rather this tiny-sized screw is used to mount a PCI Express SSD card. It helps the SSD card to adjust placement avoiding any kind of damage.

Final Words

In the end, I assume that now you understand whether does motherboard generally comes with screws or not. Let’s recap the understanding. In most cases, it does not carry any screws. On the other hand, you rarely get screws with the motherboard.
