Undoubtedly, when you’re connected to the internet but there’s nothing loads or downloads, it’s one of the most annoying problems that you’ve faced.

It becomes more frustrating when you’re middle of an important task that highly requires an internet connection.

It’s suspected that this problem usually occurs when there’re faults in the router or device or DNS server, etc.

Here, we’re about to share overall necessary information regarding this issue. If you’re also in this mess or just checking for the solution, then you’re welcome. Keep reading till the end to find out the reasons and solutions.

Why Device Is Connected to the Internet but Nothing Loads?

You can’t say the cause surely until you verify the issue in depth. Here’re some suggestions that’ll help you to find out what the actual cause is. Check them one by one.

1. Fault in the Internet Connection

It’s possible that your router is facing network disruptions or bug problems. Also, the network providing cable may get damaged or the ONU (Optical Network Unit) is faulty. 

Look for if the ONU lights are on. If they’re on that means the ONU’s condition is fine. But if they’re flickering or red, that means the problem is in the connection.

2. Fault in the Device

Check if other devices are capable of accessing the internet. If so, then the problem is with your device. Most probably your WiFi adapter is faulty, or if you’re using the ethernet cable, then the cable or port is damaged. 

3. Fault in the IP Address

Sometimes there’s a fault in the IP address. It occurs when two or more devices intend to use the same IP address. It’s a quite rare occurrence. Or it can be there’re several routers connected to the same network. 

In this case, the router can’t transmit accurate data to your device and make the device can’t access the internet.

4. Incompatible Wireless Modes

The internet’s coverage and speed depend on your router’s standard and wireless mode. The usual standards are 802.11ac, 802.11b, 802.11g, etc. Then the problem occurs when your device and router mismatch the standard. 

Such as, your device supports only 802.11b but your router is built with the 802.11ac standard. 

5. Faulty DNS Cache

The DNS caches are responsible for storing the information of recently visited web pages. Unfortunately, There’re times when the DNS caches get corrupted because of malicious website data or any other technical errors. It also happens rarely.

But if it happens, the DNS caches don’t let you use the internet.

How to Recover From This Connected but No Internet Issue?

Luckily, this issue has some applicable solutions that are capable of resolving it. 

Method 1: Reset the Router

First, you can try the most basic way which is resetting both the router and the ONU. To do so –

Step 1: Unplug both of them.

Step 2: Wait for at least 30 seconds.

Step 3: Plug the ONU first, then the router after a while.

If it doesn’t solve the issue, you can go ahead to try the other solutions.

Method 2: Forget the Network and Reconnect

It’s an effective solution because when you forget your WiFi network, the previous preferences get deleted. Then when you reconnect it, it gets connected with a new IP address. So, the issue shouldn’t persist.

For Laptop,

Step 1: Go to Settings from the Start menu.

Step 2: Select Network & Internet.

Step 3: Now, go to the Wi-Fi settings.

Step 4: Here, you’ll find a section named Manage known networks. Select it.

Step 5: Now, click on your network and choose to Forget. 

Step 6: After that, go to the Notification Panel and open the WiFi Network section.

Step 7: Finally, select your network and connect to it.

For smartphone,

Step 1: Launch the Settings app.

Step 2: Go to Wi-Fi & network / Wi-Fi.

Step 3: Tap on your network and select Forget.

Step 4: Then, return to the Wi-Fi menu and connect to your network.

Method 3: Reset Network Settings

If you try resetting your network settings then it can possibly clean up the disturbance regarding this issue.

Step 1: Launch the Settings app.

Step 2: Locate System and open it.

Step 3: Now, select Reset options.

Step 4: Choose the Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth option.

Method 4: Troubleshoot Network Adapter

When it seems that the problem is with your device, then you should try troubleshooting the Network Adapter.

Step 1: On the Taskbar, at the bottom-right corner, right-click on the Network icon.

Step 2: Select Troubleshoot problems.

Then Windows will automatically diagnose any issue and try to fix it. If it fails then it’ll sometimes suggest what’s the actual issue. Then you can search for the solution online and apply it.

Method 5: Clean DNS Caches

Cleaning the corrupted DNS can be very much effective. To do so –

Step 1: Search the Command Prompt from the search bar and open it.

Step 2: Type the command given below and press Enter to execute it:

ipconfig/flushdns

Now, your DNS caches will be cleaned by flushing.

Method 6: Set Matching Wireless Mode

You can set the router standard matching with your device.

Step 1: Open the Command Prompt and execute ipconfig. Default Gateway is the IP address of your router.

Step 2: Use this address on your browser’s address bar and log into your router. 

Step 3: Find the Wireless Mode setting and alternate the wireless mode with the one that is suitable to your device.

Method 7: Apply Factory Reset

If nothing can diminish the issue then you can perform a factory reset on your smartphone.

Step 1: Go to Settings, then System, and finally Reset options.

Step 2: Select Erase all data (factory reset).

Method 8: Contact your Internet Service Provider

If your router and device are completely okay but the issue still persists, then it’s high time you should contact the internet service provider and elaborate on the issue to them. 

If there’s any outage or any other cause, they’ll help by fixing the issue for you.

Bonus Tip: Accurate Device Date and Time

Sometimes, if your device’s date and time are incorrect, then there’s a chance of occurring this problem. So, it’ll be wise to set them accurately. All you’ve to do is,

Step 1: Head to Settings.

Step 2: Search for the Date & time.

Step 3: Set the current date and time according to your area.
