2 6 Pin to 1 8 Pin Adapter | Is It Usable?

March 7, 2022 by Jim Eddy

Choosing the right adapter for GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) is important to have a smooth gaming experience. How many pins are there in your system’s PSU (Power Supply Unit)? Or, how many adapters do you require to power the system? These questions need to be answered before buying the correct combo of adapters. Can 2 6pin adapters to 1 8pin adapter power the GPU? The article will assist you in deciding its usability.

2 6 pin to 1 8 pin adapter is it usable

2 6 Pin to 1 8 Pin Adapter – How Is It?

Having a 2 6pin adapter rather than a single 6pin adapter is good for overclocking. Many find a single 6pin adapter to be good enough to power the GPU; hence, a dual 6pin adapter would certainly be overwhelming.

On the other hand, the single 8pin PSU (Power Supply) comes with an arrangement of 2pins + 6pins connector. You can connect the extra 2pins for getting extra voltage or leave it as it is. If you need more overclocking, then you should use +2 pins to get the best out of the 8pin adapter.

2 6pin to 8pin is usable on most occasions. You will get good FPS and resolution, especially playing high-end games. However, in case you have got a heavy GPU like GTX 1060 or better, then you should spend a few bucks on buying a new PSU rather than a mix-matching older one with different adapters.

Obviously, you try to plug 6pin to 8pin adapter, the additional 2pins of the latter one remains unused. Why would someone do it then? You might have a 6pin adapter before; adding another 6pin might do the trick. Yes, a good amount of money is saved as you won’t have to buy a brand new 8pin but will certainly not perform as well as 8pin PSU.

Conclusion

2 6pin to 1 8pin adapter is usable and will boost the system better than a single 6pin adapter. The graphical output is good enough with this arrangement to play high-end games. Having said that; there is no alternative to buy a new 8pin PSU to go with the 8pin GPU; I am assuming that you want to be benefitted at the highest level. I hope you got your answer.
